Spiro Drug Kingpin Sentenced to Over Five Years

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The grim tale of drug distribution in Oklahoma took a chilling turn as Curtis Gene Atkins, a 60-year-old resident of Spiro, was sentenced to serve over five years for his role in the methamphetamine trade.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Atkins faced two counts of Distribution of Methamphetamine. The charges stemmed from an intensive investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the 12th/21st Judicial Drug Task Force based in Sebastian and Crawford Counties, Arkansas, and the Barling, Arkansas Police Department.

On November 18, 2024, Atkins entered a guilty plea to the charges. Law enforcement officials revealed that on April 4, 2024, and May 15, 2024, Atkins had sold a staggering 166.06 grams of methamphetamine within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The solemn sentencing was presided over by the Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Upon completion of his sentence, Atkins will be transported to a federal prison facility by the U.S. Marshals Service, where he will serve a non-paroleable term.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Cornell represented the United States in the case, ensuring justice was served for those affected by the drug trade in Oklahoma.

This sentence sends a stark reminder of the impact of methamphetamine distribution on communities and the relentless effort of law enforcement to combat such criminal activities.
