Springdale Predator: Attaway Gets 87 Months for Child Porn

FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Jonathan David Attaway, 32, of Springdale, Arkansas, will spend the next seven years and three months in federal prison after being sentenced yesterday for trafficking in depravity. Attaway received 87 months imprisonment without the possibility of parole after being convicted on one count of Transportation of Child Pornography.

The case unfolded in January 2022 when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) received credible information regarding the upload of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to a Google account originating from Northwest Arkansas. Investigators quickly zeroed in on Attaway as the user of that account. A subsequent search warrant executed at his Springdale residence yielded multiple devices crammed with sickening images of exploited children.

Prosecutors laid out a disturbing picture at sentencing, revealing that the images Attaway possessed depicted minors as young as 6 years old engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The evidence presented painted a clear picture of a predator actively seeking out and possessing horrific material, fueling the demand that perpetuates the abuse of vulnerable children.

“This sentence sends a clear message: those who exploit children will be held accountable,” stated U.S. Attorney Clay Fowlkes of the Western District of Arkansas. While a statement offers little comfort to the victims, the lengthy sentence at least removes a dangerous individual from society. The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the hearing in U.S. District Court.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Taskforce, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in combating online child exploitation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Williams skillfully prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States, ensuring Attaway faced justice.

This prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to aggressively target and dismantle networks involved in child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders, and to rescue victims.
