St. Albans Man Gets 8.5 Years for Meth Distribution

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A relentless federal drug battle reached its climax as Timothy A. Ward, 42, of St. Albans, was today locked away for eight years and nine months for aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine. According to court documents and statements made in court, Ward, alongside his wife, Sarah J. Ward, were like a pair of drug dealers in a horror movie, swapping meth for cash on seven occasions from October 2, 2023, to December 6, 2023, in Kanawha County.

The Wards pocketed money for their deadly trade and even orchestrated shoplifting schemes. On October 2, 2023, Timothy Ward sold a half-ounce of meth to an informant at a St. Albans bar, just one of their many drug deals that day.

But it wasn’t just the streets they terrorized; Ward also turned his home into a black market operation. On December 7, 2023, he sold a firearm with an obliterated serial number to an informant who had bought meth from him before. This wasn’t just a drug ring, it was a well-oiled machine designed for one thing: profit over people.

Ward’s criminal history reads like a rap sheet of America’s worst nightmares, with 24 prior convictions, including domestic battery, grand larceny, and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. His latest conviction was sealed on September 8, 2020, in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

His wife, Sarah J. Ward, 40, has also pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine, awaiting her own sentence.

United States Attorney Will Thompson had this to say about the investigation: ‘The St. Albans Police Department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) have done a stellar job in bringing these criminals to justice.’ United States District Judge Irene C. Berger was the architect of justice, imposing the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuted the case with relentless dedication.
