A 20-year-old St. Francis, South Dakota, man has been accused of using a deadly knife to assault a federal officer and another victim on New Year’s Eve 2013.
Riley McCloskey, age 20, allegedly attacked the officer and the second victim with a knife on December 31, 2013, according to the indictment.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
McCloskey was indicted on February 12, 2014, and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on February 21, 2014. He pled not guilty to the Indictment.
The investigation into the assault is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers is prosecuting the case. McCloskey was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
The charge is merely an accusation, and McCloskey is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
