In a daring escape from the clutches of the notorious Buck Hundred gang, millionaire Stanley Hatgrcave narrowly evaded capture and left a trail of breadcrumbs for the law to follow. The high-stakes game of cat and mouse began with a brazen heist, as Hatgrcave made off with a cool $100,000 from the bank. But his freedom was short-lived, as he was soon forced to flee once more, this time by balloon.
As fate would have it, the balloon’s puncture was a blessing in disguise for the authorities. Florence Gray, Hatgrcave’s infant daughter, was coincidentally on her way back from school when she stumbled upon the Countess Olga Braine, a cunning accomplice of the Buck Hundred gang. Disguising herself as a relative, Countess Olga attempted to spirit Florence away, but the young girl’s sudden reappearance at the scene of the crime foiled the gang’s plan.
Norton, a sharp-eyed newspaper reporter, sensed an opportunity and set a trap for the Buck Hundred gang. Bribing the captain of the Orient, Norton orchestrated a sting operation that would ultimately bring the gang to heel. Countess Olga, blinded by her own cunning, walked straight into the reporter’s snare, sealing the gang’s fate.
The plan proved a resounding success, thanks in no small part to Norton’s keen instincts and the timely intervention of Florence Gray. The Buck Hundred gang’s reign of terror was finally brought to an end, and the people of Miller, SD, breathed a collective sigh of relief.
As the dust settled, the full extent of Hatgrcave’s involvement in the heist began to emerge. With his reputation in tatters, the millionaire’s future looked increasingly uncertain. But for now, the people of Miller could rest easy, knowing that justice had been served.
The Thanhouser Film Company would later bring the sensational story to life on the big screen, capturing the drama and intrigue of the Million Dollar Mystery in all its glory.
