A Las Vegas resident turned New York resident, Stephanie Markham, 57, was convicted of perjury, making false statements, and obstruction of justice in connection with an HOA take over scheme in the Las Vegas area.
The scheme aimed to fraudulently take control of homeowners’ associations (HOAs) in Las Vegas, with Markham agreeing to run for the HOA board of directors to advance the goals of the fraudulent takeover scheme.
Markham received a 1% property interest in a condominium unit at Jasmine Ranch and was found guilty of one count of perjury, one count of making false statements, and one count of obstruction of justice after a three-day trial in the District of Nevada.
The investigation revealed that Markham participated in the scheme in 2006 and lied about her involvement in her FBI interview and grand jury testimony.
Stephanie Markham’s sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2016 before U.S. District Judge James C. Mahan of the District of Nevada.
The case is being investigated by the FBI, IRS-CI, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Section, with the case prosecuted by Trial Attorneys Thomas B.W. Hall and Alison Anderson, and Deputy Chief Charles La Bella of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
This is the 41st defendant convicted in the HOA takeover scheme investigation, with 36 defendants pleading guilty and four defendants found guilty after trial.
