A Morgantown man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a significant methamphetamine trafficking operation in West Virginia. Steven Reger, 47, was handed a five-year and three-month prison sentence, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for aiding and abetting the distribution of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on March 23, 2021, Reger sold approximately 428.1 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant near a garage in Parkersburg. Reger admitted to selling the methamphetamine to the informant and receiving $5,000 as well as $10,000 from prior drug deals from the informant.
The investigation into Reger’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Parkersburg Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. United States Attorney Will Thompson commended the investigative work of these agencies in bringing Reger to justice.
Chief United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the sentence in the case. Assistant United States Attorneys Joshua Hanks and Negar M. Kordestani prosecuted the case.
The case against Reger is a significant blow to methamphetamine traffickers in the region. The sale of 428.1 grams of methamphetamine is a substantial amount of the highly addictive and destructive drug. Reger’s involvement in the trafficking operation has likely prevented numerous other individuals from being victimized by the drug.
Reger’s sentence serves as a reminder that those involved in methamphetamine trafficking will be held accountable for their actions. The Southern District of West Virginia will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle methamphetamine trafficking operations in the region.
