Jason A. Kiedrowski, 39, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, stood silent in a Green Bay federal courtroom on November 21, 2016, as the weight of six bank heists crashed down around him. He was sentenced for entering financial institutions with the intent to commit larceny, a federal crime under Title 18 U.S.C. Section 2113(a), capping a crime spree that rattled communities across Wisconsin.
Kiedrowski admitted under a plea agreement to robbing six banks and credit unions in early 2015: Fox Communities Credit Union in Grand Chute on February 10; Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire on March 19; Hometown Bank in Fond du Lac on March 24; Educational Employee’s Credit Union in Janesville on April 10; First National Bank in Appleton on June 18; and Unison Credit Union in De Pere on July 7. Though no weapons were used, the psychological toll on tellers and customers was immediate and lasting.
Chief U.S. District Judge William C. Griesbach didn’t buy Kiedrowski’s claim that he meant only to take money, not fear. “Atrocious” was the word the judge used to describe the defendant’s criminal history, calling the pattern of crime a campaign of predation. “You preyed on people,” Griesbach said, rejecting arguments that the lack of a weapon softened the blow.
Victims filled the courtroom, many speaking directly to Kiedrowski, describing sleepless nights, panic attacks, and the erosion of trust that followed each robbery. The judge called the crimes “very serious,” emphasizing the lifelong impact on survivors. Public safety, he declared, was his primary concern.
The sentence handed down? Ten years in federal prison — but only after Kiedrowski finishes a separate seven-year state sentence already being served. On top of that, he must pay $15,050 in restitution and endure three years of Supervised Release upon release from federal custody.
The case was a joint effort by the Grand Chute, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, Janesville, Appleton, and De Pere Police Departments, along with the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel R. Humble prosecuted. Gregory J. Haanstad, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, confirmed the outcome. # # # # #
