Two Hamden residents, Tahir Farid, 21, and Ryan Looney, 19, have been charged with distributing oxycodone involved in a Weston overdose, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Farid and Looney are each charged with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of oxycodone, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.
According to the criminal complaints, the victim purchased 30 40-milligram oxycodone pills from Farid in exchange for $900 on January 3, 2016. He then consumed some of those pills, as well as other substances, which led to his overdose.
It is further alleged that prior to the victim’s overdose, Looney supplied Farid with oxycodone pills.
Farid was arrested on February 22, 2016, and released on a $250,000 bond, while Looney was arrested on February 29, 2016, and released on a $100,000 bond.
U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly stressed that a complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Spector. The matter is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Weston Police Department, and the Monroe Police Department.
