Takiem Ewing, Carjacking Resulting In Death, New York 2014

Defendant Charged in Heinous Carjacking Resulting in Death

WHITE PLAINS, NY – Takiem Ewing, a 30-year-old resident of the Bronx, has been charged with carjacking resulting in death in connection with the murder of a livery cab driver in the Bronx on August 12, 2014.

According to the charges, Ewing, along with his co-defendants Tyrone Felder and Kareem Martin, kidnapped and murdered a 44-year-old livery cab driver, leaving his body on the side of the road in the Bronx.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara stated, ‘As alleged in the complaint, this was a senseless and heinous murder that took the life of a man who was working as a livery cab driver in the Bronx. The arrests today are a testament to the perseverance and cooperation of the FBI and our local partners, the NYPD and the Yonkers Police Department.’

FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge George Venizelos stated, ‘As alleged, the defendants were as reckless as they were ruthless, indiscriminately assassinating an innocent livery driver trying to earn a living. This alleged conduct is beyond deplorable. Agents, detectives, and prosecutors worked around-the-clock to make these arrests and to stop this scourge on our community. I commend them for their relentless drive in pursuit of justice.’

The three defendants were presented in White Plains federal court before United States Magistrate Judge Lisa Margaret Smith and were ordered detained.

The investigation into the carjacking and murder was a collaborative effort between the FBI, NYPD, and Yonkers Police Department. According to the Complaint, the defendants were also linked to two commercial robberies and two carjackings that took place on August 5, 2014, and August 12, 2014.

The first murder took place in the early morning hours of August 5, 2014, when the body of a livery cab driver was found shot in the vicinity of Hunter Avenue in the Bronx. Later that day, a minimart in Yonkers was robbed at gunpoint, and video footage revealed that the robbers arrived in a black sedan that looked like the sedan belonging to the Hunter Avenue Homicide Victim.

The black sedan was found abandoned near Exterior Street in the Bronx, doused in bleach, with a stolen cellular telephone inside. On August 12, 2014, the body of a livery cab driver was found shot in the head in the street on Bryant Avenue in the Bronx. His livery cab was found abandoned on Under Hill Avenue in the Bronx.
