The former Tama Police Chief, Jeffrey Filloon, 47, from Toledo, Iowa, has pleaded guilty in federal court for stealing a Tama police service weapon and lying to an FBI agent. Filloon admitted taking and selling property including three guns and four vehicles from the Tama Police Department.
In a plea agreement, Filloon confessed to lying about purchasing one of the impounded vehicles, when he had actually acquired it through another individual. He now faces a possible sentence of 15 years in prison, a $500,000 fine, $200 in special assessments, and six years of supervised release.
Filoon’s sentencing will be determined after a presentence report is prepared by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. Currently, Filloon remains free on bail conditions pending his sentencing date.
The case against Filloon was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI. The court file for this case can be accessed at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, under case number 16-CR-95.
