Taneisha Nickerson, 29, of Dallas, Texas, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for her role in a pill mill operation.
The operation, which was active from 2013 to 2014, involved the illicit distribution of pain medications, including oxycodone and hydrocodone. Nickerson pleaded guilty in August 2016 to one count of unlawful use of a communication device.
Nickerson’s co-defendant, Adrian Banks, 23, of Dallas, was also sentenced to 20 months in federal prison. He pleaded guilty to the same offense in August 2016. The indictment, which was handed down in March 2015, alleged that the defendants participated in a scheme to obtain prescriptions for pain medications and distribute them for profit.
According to documents, Nickerson agreed to deliver 225 oxycodone 30mg pills to a co-conspirator’s customer on March 5, 2014. Banks, on the other hand, called a co-conspirator on February 26, 2014, and inquired about using a green card to fill a prescription at a pharmacy.
The investigation, which was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, involved assistance from several law enforcement agencies, including the IRS, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Dallas Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Walters is prosecuting the case.
The indictment named 23 individuals, including Nickerson and Banks, who were accused of participating in the prescription drug distribution conspiracy. Many of those defendants have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
