A Robbinsdale man has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm as a felon, announced United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger. Tavaris Michael Dixon, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a firearm as a felon in U.S. District Court before Judge Eric C. Tostrud.
According to the defendant’s guilty plea and court documents, on June 22, 2022, Dixon possessed a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol, with a Streamlight TLR-6 laser/light attachment. Dixon is prohibited from possessing a firearm because of prior felony convictions in Hennepin County, including a 2008 conviction of aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
Dixon’s guilty plea is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Minneapolis Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lindsey E. Middlecamp and Justin A. Wesley.
A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled for Dixon. As a felon in possession of a firearm, Dixon faces significant prison time. The conviction is a serious offense, and the U.S. Attorney’s office will seek to ensure that Dixon is held accountable for his actions.
