In a stunning letter to President Herbert Hoover, former US Bureau of Mines director H. Poster Bain of New York has come to the defense of Albeit B. Fall, the former Secretary of the Interior convicted of accepting a bribe in connection with the leasing of the Teapot Dome and Elk Hills, California, naval oil reserves. Writing from his New York base on August 1, 1931, Bain claimed that Fall was unjustly convicted, and that he himself was the mastermind behind the oil deals.
