A Portland man has been sentenced to seven years in prison and eight years of supervised release for his role in trafficking crack in the city. Tem Tom, 24, of Portland, Maine, was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, commonly known as ‘crack.’
The investigation into Tom’s activities began on February 2, 2017, when law enforcement agents conducting surveillance in Portland approached a vehicle in which Tom was a passenger following a suspected drug transaction. During the stop, agents seized over an ounce of crack and $3,580 from Tom.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration with assistance from the Portland Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Tom pleaded guilty to the charges on November 15, 2017. He was subsequently sentenced to seven years in prison and eight years of supervised release by Judge D. Brock Hornby in U.S. District Court.
The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the trafficking of illicit substances in the city.
