GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a shocking turn of events, James Lee Hill, 47, from Dayton, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. The sentence, handed down by the Honorable United States District Court Judge Timothy L. Brooks in Fayetteville, Arkansas, also includes 20 years of supervised release.
Hill’s descent into legal purgatory began when the mother of a 17-year-old girl reported her daughter’s phone stolen near Dayton. The harrowing truth emerged as the minor and her contacts were subjected to obscene images and explicit requests for intimate conduct via digital channels. Law enforcement, in a meticulous investigation that spanned across state lines, tracked down the stolen device in Berryville, Arkansas, where they apprehended Hill.
The federal grand jury indicted Hill in November 2016 for his sinister attempt to entice the minor to produce explicit images of herself in exchange for the return of her property. The defendant pleaded guilty in January 2017, marking a swift resolution in this case of cyber-enabled exploitation.
This investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Department of Homeland Security Investigations, Collier County Florida Sherriff’s Department, and Carroll County Sherriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Dustin Roberts led the prosecution against Hill.
James Lee Hill’s sentence sends a chilling message to predators who seek to exploit minors in the digital age. The justice system has once again proven its capability to protect our youth from such heinous acts.
