Nancy Stallard Harr’s Rise to Power

Grimy Times has learned that Nancy Stallard Harr was administered the oath of office as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee by Chief Judge Thomas Varlan on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at the James H. Quillen Federal Courthouse in Greeneville, Tenn.

Harr had previously served as the Interim U.S. Attorney by appointment of the Attorney General of the United States, Loretta Lynch, as part of a power struggle that ensued after the retirement of William C. Killian in 2015. Pursuant to their statutory authority, the federal district judges selected Harr to serve until the nomination and confirmation of a Presidentially appointed, Senate confirmed successor.

A native of Bristol, Va., Harr has a storied career in law enforcement, having served as a former prosecutor with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s office in Blountville. Her tenure in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Knoxville dates back to 1995, where she later became the supervisor of the Greeneville branch office in 2001. Harr’s expertise has not gone unnoticed, as she was named First Assistant U.S. Attorney in 2011 and later became the Acting United States Attorney upon Killian’s retirement.

Harr’s appointment marks a significant shift in the Eastern District of Tennessee, where she will be responsible for overseeing federal law enforcement efforts in the region. As U.S. Attorney, Harr will be tasked with tackling some of the district’s most high-profile cases, including public corruption, violent crime, and narcotics trafficking.

Harr’s husband, Paul A. Harr, is an attorney in private practice in Blountville, Tenn. As she assumes her new role, Harr will undoubtedly face her own set of challenges and controversies. However, with her extensive experience in law enforcement, she is well-equipped to tackle the demands of her new position.

As Harr embarks on this new chapter in her career, Grimy Times will be keeping a close eye on her efforts to tackle the complex issues facing the Eastern District of Tennessee. With her impressive track record and experience in law enforcement, Harr is poised to make a significant impact in her new role as U.S. Attorney.
