Grimy Times has uncovered a shocking scam involving a doctor, a dentist, and a former NBA player. Terrence Williams, Aamir Wahab, and William Washington have been charged with defrauding the National Basketball Association Players’ Health and Welfare Benefit Plan out of at least $5 million.
According to the charges, the scheme involved submitting and causing to be submitted fraudulent claims for reimbursement of medical and dental services that were not actually rendered. The defendants allegedly engaged in this widespread scheme from 2017 to 2021.
Terrence Williams, a doctor, and Aamir Wahab, a dentist, are accused of facilitating the scheme, while former NBA player Keyon Dooling allegedly recruited other co-conspirators to join the scheme. Dooling, along with the other defendants, faces charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud.
The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni. Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, praised the FBI for their hard work in uncovering the details of the scheme.
Key charges include: Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud and Wire Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft.
The defendants were arrested on October 2021. Their current status is unknown.
Terrence Williams, Aamir Wahab, William Washington, and Keyon Dooling’s case is a shocking example of the abuse of positions for personal gain. The NBA Players Health and Welfare Benefit Plan provides essential benefits to eligible active and former players, and it is clear that these defendants took advantage of this system for their own enrichment.
