Iyman Faris, Providing Material Support to al Qaeda, Illinois 2006

grimytimes.com: Iyman Faris, a 47-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Pakistan, is facing denaturalization after being convicted of providing material support to al Qaeda.

Faris was naturalized as a U.S. citizen on Dec. 16, 1999, but his citizenship is now in jeopardy due to his crimes.

A civil complaint filed in the Southern District of Illinois alleges that Faris entered the United States fraudulently by using another’s passport and willfully misrepresented the circumstances under which he entered the country on subsequent applications for immigration benefits.

The complaint also alleges that Faris twice testified falsely to obtain immigration benefits and lacked the required attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution at the time of his naturalization.

Faris is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, for conspiracy to provide material support to al Qaeda and for providing material support to the designated foreign terrorist organization.

The U.S. government is pursuing denaturalization proceedings against Faris, citing the Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows for the revocation of citizenship if it was illegally procured or procured by concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Chad A. Readler and U.S. Attorney Donald S. Boyce have vowed to continue pursuing denaturalization proceedings against known or suspected terrorists who procured their citizenship by fraud.
