Texas Man Faces Up to 20 Years for Credit Card Fraud

Crime Pays, But Not for This Texas Man

Jacksonville, FL – A 23-year-old Amarillo man has pleaded guilty to credit card fraud, a crime that could land him in prison for up to 20 years.

Jose Carlos Terra Izquierdo, a repeat offender, was convicted of credit card fraud in the District of Nebraska in 2016. He was supposed to turn himself in and begin serving his prison sentence in March 2017, but instead, he fled to Florida in violation of his conditions of release.

Federal authorities in Nebraska issued a warrant for his arrest, which was later executed when Izquierdo was pulled over in Columbia County by the Florida Highway Patrol for an expired Texas tag.

During a search of the vehicle, troopers found a credit card reader and stolen credit card information belonging to more than 50 victims. Izquierdo’s prior fraud conviction has earned him an enhanced penalty.

The investigation was led by the Florida Highway Patrol and the U.S. Secret Service – Jacksonville Field Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein prosecuting the case.

Izquierdo has agreed to forfeit his computer media and pay restitution to his victims. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The case is a stark reminder that crime does not pay, and those who commit financial crimes will face the full force of the law. Grimy Times will continue to track this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
