In a brazen and baffling crime, a package containing $7,700 was swiped from a United States Express shipment to the New York SubTreasury, leaving behind only $2,500 – a staggering $5,200 discrepancy that has left investigators stumped. The theft occurred about a month ago, when Collector Brendel of Buffalo shipped the package to Assistant United States Treasurer Jordan in New York City. Upon receipt, Treasurer Jordan immediately notified Secret Service officers, who were quick to launch an investigation.
