Thomas Albright, a 71-year-old man from Marlboro, New York, is behind bars on federal child pornography charges after his arrest on January 12. Albright faces counts of distributing, receiving, and possessing child sexual abuse material, according to a criminal complaint unsealed in the Northern District of New York.

The takedown was confirmed by United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Special Agent in Charge Andrew W. Vale of the FBI’s Albany Division. Details of the investigation remain under wraps, but authorities moved swiftly to apprehend Albright, who appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daniel J. Stewart on January 13 in Albany. He was ordered held without bail pending further court proceedings.

The charges stem from digital evidence allegedly discovered during a forensic review of Albright’s electronic devices. Federal prosecutors allege Albright not only accessed but also shared illicit material involving minors. The complaint outlines a pattern of criminal behavior tied to online activity, though exact timelines and methods are still sealed.

If convicted on all counts, Albright faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years and up to 20 years in federal prison. He could also be sentenced to between 5 years and life under court-monitored supervised release after incarceration, plus a $250,000 fine. Registration as a sex offender would be required under any conviction.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sahar Amandolare is leading the prosecution. The FBI’s Albany Division continues to assist in the probe, part of a broader federal push to dismantle networks involved in the production and distribution of child pornography.

The charges against Thomas Albright are presumed innocent until proven in a court of law. No trial date has been set. The case remains active under the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.
