In a shocking turn of events, Philadelphia Transit Company employee Thomas E. Allen, a key figure in the recent transit strike, has been ordered back to work. But this time, it’s not by choice. The U.S. Army, now in control of the transit system, has seen fit to punish the strikers who dared to defy the new order. Allen, a stalwart employee of the transit company, was given a stern talking-to by William Poisal, chief instructor of the company, on how to operate a trolley car. Now, the strikers who refused to work alongside their African American counterparts are being forced to report to work and continue their training.
