Local Man Sentenced for Oxycodone Trafficking
A 23-year-old Fairmont man was sentenced to nine months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute oxycodone in Monongalia County, according to a statement from the United States Attorney’s Office.
Thomas Keener II, of Fairmont, West Virginia, pled guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Use of Communication Facility’ in October 2017. Keener admitted to using a phone to distribute and assist in the conspiracy to distribute oxycodone in Monongalia County in February 2017.
The sentence was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The Mon Metro Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case. The task force worked to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations in the Monongalia County area.
Keener’s sentence is a result of his guilty plea. He will serve nine months in prison, followed by a period of supervised release. The sentence is designed to hold individuals accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic and to disrupt the flow of illicit substances in the community.
The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in drug trafficking activities. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals who contribute to the opioid crisis.
