A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon in Norfolk, Virginia.

Norfolk Police Detective/FBI Task Force Officer was the target of death threats made by Thomas Liddle, 28, and his co-conspirator in March 2021. The threats were sent via text messages, which indicated the conspirators knew the officer’s home and work address. The officer also received threatening calls.

In December 2021, an arrest warrant was issued for Liddle for failing to appear in court. Norfolk Police received a tip about Liddle’s location and observed him in a parked vehicle. When Liddle was arrested, officers found a firearm in his pants pocket. Liddle had been previously convicted of robbery, burglary, and use of a firearm in 2014, making his possession of a firearm illegal.

Liddle admitted to being present when the threatening calls were made to the officer and identified the officer for his co-conspirator to make the threats. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which focuses on reducing violent crime in the community.
