Crime Spree Rocks Wallace Post Office
A brazen burglary at the post office on Camanche Parkway South in Wallace, California has left residents shaken. On the night of July 2, 2020, Thomas Patrick Day, 41, of Modesto, broke into the post office using a glass breaker tool to shatter the glass on the door. The thug then stole packages and keys to post office boxes belonging to other people and businesses.
According to court documents, Day’s heinous crime was a deliberate act of vandalism and theft. The post office, a vital hub for the community, was left reeling from the attack.
Day’s guilty plea comes after a thorough investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Barton is prosecuting the case.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Day faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Day is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd on June 21, 2022.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced the guilty plea, stating that Day’s actions had a significant impact on the community.
