Alton Man Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Missouri Employer of Over $140,000

Thomas Vogt, a 60-year-old man from Alton, Illinois, has pleaded guilty to defrauding his former employer of more than $140,000 in a double reimbursement scheme. Vogt, who is accused of seeking reimbursement for expenses that his employer had already paid, admitted to taking the proceeds of the scheme from Missouri to his bank in Illinois.

According to court documents, Vogt used a double reimbursement scheme to defraud his former employer out of the significant amount of money. He pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property and agreed to a forfeiture allegation as to the proceeds of the scheme.

Vogt’s guilty plea comes after a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Albus is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The case was heard in St. Louis, MO, where Vogt appeared before Judge Audrey G. Fleissig. The judge accepted Vogt’s plea and scheduled sentencing for May 22, 2018.

Vogt faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Restitution to the victims is also mandatory.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and oversight in preventing and detecting white-collar crimes such as credit card fraud. It also highlights the role of law enforcement agencies in investigating and prosecuting such cases.
