Houston Woman Gets 37 Months for Threatening Federal Judge
A 50-year-old Houston woman has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for using interstate communications to threaten, kidnap, or injure a federal judge, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.
Tiffani Shea Gish, also known as Evelyn Salt, pleaded guilty to the charges on November 9, 2023.
Gish left three threatening voicemails on the chamber telephone of a U.S. district judge from Florida on September 1, 2022. In the messages, she claimed to be a member of several military combat units, trained and familiar with weapons of war.
She repeatedly threatened to assassinate the judge, stating that she had ordered snipers and a bomb to the victim’s house and would throw a bullet to the victim’s head. The messages were laced with expletives.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner noted that he was concerned for the safety of the public and protecting the judiciary. The judge also mentioned that Gish had previously left threatening messages for various government agencies.
Gish will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service conducted the investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Schammel prosecuted the case.
The U.S. Attorney’s office emphasized that upholding the rule of law is a priority, and protecting public servants from violence is essential. Holding Gish accountable for her threats sends a strong message that there is no tolerance for those who seek to undermine democratic institutions by threatening the safety of public servants.
