Timothy Anderson, 26, a former resident of Dayton, Ohio, is facing federal charges for illegally possessing a firearm — a silver and black Ruger P93CD 9mm handgun, serial number 306-08627, on or about January 24, 2018. Anderson, also linked to Sacramento, California, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on March 13, accused of violating federal law that bars convicted felons from owning or carrying guns.
The one-count indictment carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the final penalty will hinge on the severity of the offense and Anderson’s criminal past. Federal prosecutors stress that possession of any firearm by a felon is a serious federal crime — not a minor paperwork oversight.
Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti is leading the prosecution. The case was built through a multi-agency sweep involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Dayton, Ohio Police Department, the Shenango Township Police Department, the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General – Bureau of Narcotics, and the New Castle Police Department.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative resurrected in October 2017 under then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, aimed at slashing violent crime through coordinated law enforcement action. PSN has reignited federal scrutiny on gun crimes, especially those involving repeat offenders and illegal firearm transfers across state lines.
Authorities stress that while the indictment is a formal accusation, it follows a thorough investigation. Anderson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. Still, the government is moving swiftly to hold him accountable for allegedly arming himself despite a felony record.
The Ruger seized in the case was confirmed functional and loaded at the time of discovery. Possession alone — regardless of whether the gun was fired — is enough to trigger federal time. Anderson awaits arraignment, with prosecutors signaling no leniency for armed felons on the loose.
