Timothy Christopher Gaines, Armed Robbery, Oregon 2022

A brazen robbery in Eugene has landed a Portland man a lengthy federal prison sentence. Timothy Christopher Gaines, a 30-year-old affiliated with the Hoover Criminal Gang and Unthank Park Hustlers, robbed Green Therapy, a marijuana dispensary in Eugene, on December 20, 2019.

During the heist, Gaines brandished a firearm and pointed it at a store employee cowering on the floor. His accomplice was also involved in the robbery, which netted several jars of marijuana and $912 in cash.

In a shocking turn of events, Gaines was charged by criminal complaint on June 25, 2020, with Hobbs Act robbery. A federal grand jury in Portland later returned an indictment on July 23, 2020, charging Gaines with the same crime. A superseding indictment added a charge of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Gaines pleaded guilty to the firearm charge on February 14, 2022. For his crimes, he was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release.

U.S. Attorney Scott Erik Asphaug of the District of Oregon announced the sentence. The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from the Eugene Police Department and Portland Police Bureau. Assistant U.S. Attorney Leah K. Bolstad prosecuted the case.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

Gaines’ case is a grim reminder of the dangers of gang-related violence in our communities. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
