RALEIGH – A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 96 months in prison for his role in a violent crime that shook the community. Tirreil Mario Maynor, 33, was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on October 29, 2015.
The charges stem from a September 26, 2014, incident in which Maynor discharged a firearm inside a residence on Ireland Drive in Fayetteville and stole a television from the property. Maynor, who is a convicted felon, also fired a gun at another location earlier in the evening and threatened to kill several individuals.
According to the investigation, Maynor fled the Ireland Drive residence and proceeded to drive down the street, shooting the back window out of a vehicle in front of him. On September 29, 2014, Maynor was arrested and found in possession of a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Ballistics linked the firearm to the various shootings that took place on September 26, 2014.
The criminal investigation of this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fayetteville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Jane J. Jackson handled the prosecution on behalf of the Eastern District of North Carolina.
On July 21, 2015, a Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment charging Maynor with the unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Maynor pled guilty to the charge on October 29, 2015.
Chief United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced Maynor to 96 months’ imprisonment followed by 3 years’ supervised release.
The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of gun violence and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. The community can rest a little easier knowing that Maynor will be behind bars for the next several years.
