TN Fights Drug Abuse

In a bid to combat the growing menace of prescription drug abuse, the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office is participating in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This event, scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, aims to provide a safe and convenient way for the public to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications.

The Tennessee AG Office, in collaboration with Hamilton County and other community partners, will set up 25 drive-thru drop-off locations across the Chattanooga-area. These locations will allow individuals to drop off their unwanted prescription drugs with minimal human contact, reducing the risk of abuse and misuse.

According to General Herbert H. Slatery III, “Safely disposing of prescription drugs keeps them out of the wrong hands and helps prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.” This statement highlights the importance of responsible prescription drug disposal and the role it plays in preventing drug-related crimes.

To facilitate the drop-off process, the public can visit any of the designated locations, including Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, Elks Lodge, and Walmart, among others. Two locations, Mt. Canaan Baptist Church and Walgreens – East Brainerd, will also offer document shredding services for outdated personal documents such as tax information or medical records.

The Tennessee AG Office has provided a list of drop-off locations across the state, which can be accessed at https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/index.html. The fight against prescription drug abuse requires a collective effort, and the Tennessee AG Office’s participation in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a step in the right direction. By providing a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted prescription medications, the office aims to reduce the risk of abuse and misuse, ultimately contributing to a safer and healthier community.
