San Diego, CA – In a shocking turn of events, Todd Bosnich, the former policy director for Carl DeMaio’s congressional campaign, was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to undergo psychiatric counseling for sending anonymous emails to himself and lying to the FBI about it.
According to the prosecution, Bosnich, 29, created a dummy email account and sent threatening messages to his own email, making it appear as though Carl DeMaio, the candidate he worked for, was behind the threats.
Bosnich’s motive was to discredit DeMaio and gain leverage in a dispute over Bosnich’s termination from the campaign. He also made false accusations of sexual harassment against DeMaio, claiming that the candidate offered him $50,000 in hush money.
However, an investigation by the FBI revealed that Bosnich was behind the threatening emails and that he had lied to the authorities about the matter.
The integrity of the American electoral process was compromised by Bosnich’s actions, and his sentence sends a clear message that the FBI will aggressively investigate and prosecute those who attempt to obstruct justice.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns, who presided over the case, noted that DeMaio lost the election and that Bosnich’s actions had the very real possibility of improperly tipping the scale towards a particular candidate.
Bosnich was also ordered to complete 240 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.
This case highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and the severe consequences of attempting to obstruct justice.
The defendant, Todd Bosnich, is a 29-year-old resident of Del Mar, CA. The exact date of the crime is not specified, but the sentencing occurred on November 23, 2015.
