Tony Evans, Robbery of Mail, Texas 2021

Tony Evans, a 24-year-old San Antonio man, has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of brazen postal robberies in Texas.

According to court documents, Evans allegedly confronted three US letter carriers on separate occasions, demanding their postal keys in July and August 2021 in San Antonio, and in April 2022 in Austin. In two of the robberies, Evans brandished a firearm.

The robberies netted Evans an unknown amount of stolen mail, money, and property. The USPS has not released a specific amount or value of property stolen.

Evans is charged with robbery of mail, money, or property of the United States, a serious federal offense. He was arrested yesterday and had his initial appearance before US Magistrate Judge Richard B. Farrer today.

The investigation into the case is being led by the US Postal Inspection Service. Assistant US Attorney William Calve will prosecute the case.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and Evans is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. If convicted, the sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge, considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and the need for vigilance in protecting our nation’s postal system.
