Juan Carlos Tostado-Gastellum, Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Maryland 2013

On November 1, 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the indictment of Juan Carlos Tostado-Gastellum, a Mexican national, for his alleged involvement in a violent crime spree across the United States.

Tostado-Gastellum was charged with multiple counts of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the killings of three individuals in Maryland and one in Florida.

According to court documents, Tostado-Gastellum, along with several co-defendants, was allegedly involved in a gang-related murder conspiracy that spanned from 2009 to 2012.

The indictment alleged that Tostado-Gastellum and his co-defendants planned and carried out the murders, often targeting rival gang members or individuals who had become witnesses to their crimes.

The case was heard in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, where Tostado-Gastellum was initially indicted in November 2013.

Following a lengthy investigation by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, Tostado-Gastellum was arrested in Mexico City in May 2015 and subsequently extradited to the United States to face trial.

In 2016, Tostado-Gastellum pleaded guilty to multiple counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, admitting to his role in the gang-related killings.

As part of his plea agreement, Tostado-Gastellum was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, bringing an end to the high-profile case.
