KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a disturbing case of online exploitation, a 26-year-old man from Independence, Missouri, has been sentenced to 16 years and three months in federal prison for producing child pornography.
Travis Howard White, a resident of Independence, Missouri, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays in federal court for his role in producing explicit images of a 13-year-old child. According to court documents, White met the child victim on Facebook and engaged in sexually explicit online chats.
During one of those chats, White instructed the child victim to create a pornographic image, which she sent to him. This was part of a larger enticement scheme, which soon led to the child victim moving from Kansas to live with White in September 2016.
White had sexual contact with the child victim on numerous occasions between September 2016 and March 2017, when the child was recovered. According to court documents, the child victim was one of many victims preyed upon by White, who admitted to engaging in "sexting" activity with between 50 to 100 females, including underage females. At least a dozen were identified as reported victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick D. Daly prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. The initiative is led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online predators and the importance of monitoring children’s online activity. As the investigation reveals, White’s actions had devastating consequences for the child victim and many others.
White’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the need for justice in cases of child exploitation. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
