RICHMOND, Va. – In a grim reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis, a Petersburg man was sentenced yesterday to 25 years in prison for his role in trafficking over two kilograms of parafluorofentanyl, a potent fentanyl analogue, in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Troy Deon Allen, 31, was found guilty of trafficking the highly addictive substance, which is similar to fentanyl but much stronger, to a confidential source three times between June 14, 2021, and August 19, 2021. The investigation, conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Prince George County Police Department, revealed that Allen was also in possession of four loaded semi-automatic firearms, including one equipped with an extended magazine.
During the search of Allen’s residence, law enforcement officials recovered a staggering amount of illicit substances, including over two kilograms of para-fluorofentanyl, 128 grams of acetyl fentanyl, 53 grams of methamphetamine, and 14 pounds of marijuana. Additionally, they found Allen’s cellular telephone, over $20,000 in cash, and the four loaded semi-automatic firearms, a Glock, Model 45, 9mm; a Glock, Model 42, .380 caliber; an Alex Pro Firearm, Model APF-15, multi-caliber, semi-automatic pistol; and a Smith & Wesson, Model M&P Shield EZ, 9mm, semi-automatic.
Allen’s crimes were further exacerbated by his status as a previously convicted felon, making him prohibited from possessing any firearms. The Court also received evidence obtained from Allen’s cellular telephone under a search warrant, which included messages discussing drug trafficking and buying and exchanging firearms with a juvenile. Several messages also discussed Allen’s knowledge and potential involvement in a July 4, 2021, homicide at a park in Hopewell where an 18-year-old was killed during a shootout.
The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber for the Eastern District of Virginia, who emphasized the severity of Allen’s crimes and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth Simon.
Troy Deon Allen’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in illicit activities and the importance of community cooperation in preventing and investigating crimes. The Eastern District of Virginia will continue to prioritize the prosecution of individuals involved in drug trafficking and related crimes.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth Simon. A copy of the press release is located on the website of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
