SAN DIEGO, CA – A routine immigration enforcement operation turned violent on August 11, 2025, when Rolando Nava PACHECO, 19, of Mexico, allegedly weaponized a white truck against federal agents, leaving one injured and government vehicles totaled. Pacheco is now facing serious federal charges, including assault on a federal officer and destruction of government property.
According to court documents, agents assigned to the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) initiated a traffic stop on Pacheco while attempting to arrest an individual suspected of immigration violations. Instead of complying, Pacheco allegedly slammed the gas pedal, deliberately striking a federal agent and a government vehicle. The reckless maneuver didn’t stop there; when a second federal agent in another government vehicle attempted to block Pacheco’s escape, he rammed that vehicle head-on.
“Our office is committed to protecting our federal law enforcement partners,” stated U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon, delivering a blunt message. “Put plainly, those who attempt to injure or evade law enforcement will face federal charges.” The incident underscores the dangers faced by officers tasked with enforcing federal law, even during what are intended to be standard procedures.
Patrick Divver, ERO San Diego Field Office Director, emphasized the dedication of his officers despite the dangerous encounter. “This operation demonstrates the commitment of ERO officers to enforcing federal immigration laws and protecting public safety,” Divver said. “Despite the challenges encountered, our officers remain dedicated to carrying out their duties with professionalism.”
Pacheco is charged with Assault on a Federal Officer – Title 18, U.S. C., Section 111 (a)(1), carrying a maximum penalty of 8 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He also faces charges of Assault on a Federal Officer resulting in bodily injury – Title 18, U.S. C., Section 111 (b), which carries a potential sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine. Finally, Pacheco is charged with Destruction of Government Property – Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1361 (Felony), which could lead to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations. Case Number 25cr-MJ-04358 has been assigned. It’s crucial to remember that these are merely allegations at this stage, and Pacheco is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
