Tucson Man Pleads Guilty to Okla. Meth, Weed Distribution

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Ismael Cobian Mendoza, a 42-year-old from Tucson, Arizona, has entered a guilty plea in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, facing life imprisonment for the distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana. The United States Attorney’s Office revealed that Mendoza was indicted in November 2014 following an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and DEA.

The indictment accused Mendoza of possessing with intent to distribute five hundred grams or more of methamphetamine—a Schedule II controlled substance—and less than fifty kilograms of marijuana—a Schedule I substance—within the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The crime is a flagrant violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(D).

United States Magistrate Judge Kimberly E. West accepted Mendoza’s plea in Muskogee and has ordered the completion of a presentence report to determine the severity of his punishment. Sentencing is set to follow its conclusion, with a possible sentence ranging from 10 years up to life imprisonment and/or a fine upwards of $10 million.

Mendezo remains in the custody of the United States Marshal Service until his sentencing date is determined. Assistant United States Attorney Edward Snow represented the United States in the case.

This conviction underscores the relentless efforts of federal law enforcement to combat drug trafficking across state lines, with Mendoza’s sentence serving as a stern reminder of the consequences for those who engage in such illegal activities.
