Turlock Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 16 Years for Fentanyl & Meth Trafficking

Salvador Vega Rendon Jr., a 33-year-old from Turlock, Stanislaus County, was handed a 16-year sentence Monday by U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley for his role in a massive drug trafficking operation involving fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Rendon’s downfall began on November 29, 2020, when he was caught driving under the influence and crashing into a parked vehicle. Law enforcement officers arrived to find Rendon unloading an ice chest and several suitcases from his vehicle into the driveway of a nearby property. The contents? More than 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, 7,000 fentanyl-laden pills, cocaine, heroin, LSD, marijuana, firearms, and body armor.

The investigation revealed that three of the firearms Rendon possessed were equipped with devices allowing them to operate as fully automatic weapons, a clear indication of intent to use violence in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities. The drugs had an estimated street value exceeding $10,000.

This case was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly A. Sanchez and Michael G. Tierney led the prosecution.

According to court documents, Rendon’s arrest followed a meticulous investigation that revealed his involvement in a significant drug trafficking network. His sentence sends a strong message about the consequences of engaging in such dangerous activities in California.

U.S. Attorney Eric Grant emphasized the severity of Rendon’s crimes and praised the law enforcement agencies involved for their diligence in bringing him to justice.
