PITTSBURGH, PA – The grim streets of Turtle Creek have been hit with a heavy charge as Thomas E. Washington Jr., 56, faces federal charges for attempted possession of a massive 40 grams of fentanyl.
Washington, from Turtle Creek, PA, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged role in the drug trade. According to the Indictment, on or about December 18, 2017, Washington plotted to possess and distribute the deadly substance.
This is no small offense; under the law, Washington could face a minimum sentence of five years in prison, a fine totaling $5,000,000, or both. The severity of his punishment would hinge on the offenses’ gravity and any prior criminal history he may have.
Yvonne M. Saadi, Assistant United States Attorney, is leading the prosecution against Washington. The investigation that led to these charges was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
The Department of Justice emphasizes that an indictment is merely an accusation, and until proven guilty, Washington is presumed innocent.
