A twice-deported Mexican national has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for his role in a Kilgore meth bust, announced the U.S. Department of Justice.
Jose Mercedes Saucedo-Guerrero, 34, was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, following a traffic stop in Kilgore that yielded a massive methamphetamine haul.
On May 2, 2024, Saucedo-Guerrero was stopped for a traffic violation in Kilgore, where officers deployed a K9 unit to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle. The K9’s positive alert led to a search of the vehicle, revealing 2,972 grams of methamphetamine hidden inside.
The investigation revealed that Saucedo-Guerrero was unlawfully present in the United States, having been previously deported on two separate occasions for immigration crimes.
The case is part of the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative, Operation Take Back America, aimed at repelling the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
The investigation was led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kilgore Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lucas Machicek prosecuting the case.
Saucedo-Guerrero’s sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of smuggling and trafficking narcotics in the United States. As part of Operation Take Back America, the DOJ will continue to crack down on those who seek to exploit and harm our communities.
