SCRANTON – A New York man was sentenced to 40 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws.
Tyshawn Mack, age 30, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced yesterday to 40 months in prison by United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani for illegally possessing two firearms.
According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, on January 18, 2019, Mack possessed a .380 caliber Ruger LCP pistol and a .32 caliber River Johnson Arms revolver, while prohibited by law to possess firearms because of a previous felony conviction.
Both firearms were loaded at the time of Mack’s possession of them.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Scranton and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Olshefski prosecuted the case.
This case was also part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts.
PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.
