Crime is a harsh reality for many in Michigan, with victims often left to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. But this week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, along with several other law enforcement agencies, is taking a stand to recognize the strength and tenacity of those who have been affected by crime.
In commemoration of National Crime Victim’s Rights Week, a tree planting and dedication ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 2:30 pm in Elizabeth Gordon Sachs Greening of Detroit Park at 1463 East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, MI. The park is located East of Rivard between East Jefferson and Larned. Parking is available along Larned.
The ceremony is a testament to the importance of engaging community leaders, organizations, and local partners in the healing process. By meeting victims where they are, we can empower them to become survivors and help them find a way forward.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, along with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), United States Marshal Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Crime Stoppers of Michigan, is committed to providing support and resources to those who have been affected by crime.
On Saturday, April 25, 2015, the Detroit Police Department will be hosting a Crime Victim’s Awareness Fair at 18100 Meyers (Northwest Activities Center) from Noon until 5:00 pm. If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crime and needs resources, please join us at the fair to learn about the services available to you.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and its partners urge anyone who has been affected by crime to reach out and seek help. You don’t have to face this alone. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have been affected by crime.
The tree planting and dedication ceremony is a reminder that crime victims are not alone, and that there are people and organizations who care and are working to make a positive impact in their lives.
