A Christmas Eve death has led to a federal indictment in Utah. Jared Kory Titcomb, 28, of Spanish Fork, Utah, has been charged with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death.
According to court documents, Titcomb allegedly distributed fentanyl to a victim on Christmas Eve, 2023. The victim was found dead by a family member on Christmas morning. The investigation showed the victim reached out to Titcomb on Christmas Eve to purchase fentanyl, and that she died of a drug overdose with fentanyl in her system.
The case is being investigated by the Spanish Fork Police Department and the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force. Special Assistant United States Attorney Peter Reichman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah is prosecuting the case.
“This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” said U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins of the District of Utah.
Titcomb is being held in custody following his initial court appearance on the indictment before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City. His next court appearance is pending.
The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the devastating impact it has on families and communities. As the investigation continues, law enforcement is urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” said Higgins.
