Varonique Lowe, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Indiana 2021

A 44-year-old Indianapolis woman with a long history of crime has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Varonique Lowe, a 10-time felon, pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine in the Southern District of Indiana.

According to court documents, Lowe was arrested in Terre Haute on September 29, 2021, after a traffic stop. She was driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and a police K9 unit detected the smell of burnt marijuana.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered 768 grams of pure methamphetamine hidden inside an Igloo cooler. Lowe admitted to possessing the methamphetamine with the intent to sell it to others, putting numerous lives at risk.

The arrest also raised concerns about the safety of two minor children who were present in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Lowe’s extensive criminal history includes 10 prior felony convictions and 21 misdemeanor convictions in California, including six convictions related to the sale of controlled substances and assault with a deadly weapon.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Terre Haute Police Department, with U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Michael Gannon announcing the sentencing.

U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson imposed the 12-year sentence, ordering Lowe to be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for five years following her release from federal prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Pamela S. Domash prosecuted the case.
