LAS VEGAS – Federal authorities are cracking down on repeat offenders, charging three foreign nationals with illegally re-entering the United States after previous deportations. The cases, announced by the Department of Justice, highlight the ongoing struggle to secure the border and address the revolving door of criminal deportations.
Artemio Valencia-Rodriguez, 47, Uvalfre Mariano Cazares-Guillen, 33, and Ismael Artemio Hidalgo-Gomez, 27, all made their initial court appearances this week to face the charge of deported alien found in the United States. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for August 4, 2025, before United States Magistrate Judge Brenda N. Weksler. Each defendant faces serious potential consequences if convicted.
The most disturbing case involves Valencia-Rodriguez, a Mexican national with a deeply troubling past. Arrested February 8, 2024, by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, he was charged with two counts of Lewdness by Person Over 18 with Child Less Than 14 and Kidnapping of Minor. Records show he’s been deported to Mexico three times – January 9, 2003, August 12, 2009, and August 17, 2009 – and carries two prior felony convictions for Possession of a Controlled Substance, alongside a conviction for being a Convicted Person in Possession of a Firearm. He was remanded to ICE custody July 1, 2025, from the Clark County Detention Center.
Cazares-Guillen, also a Mexican national, was arrested by LVMPD for Use/Posses Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Act Imitation Controlled Substance. He was previously deported to Mexico around August 18, 2018, following convictions for Burglary While in Possession of Firearm and two counts of Robbery. He now faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted of re-entry. Cazares-Guillen was remanded to ICE custody on July 2, 2025, from the Clark County Detention Center.
Hidalgo-Gomez, a citizen of Guatemala, adds another layer to this pattern of recidivism. Arrested by LVMPD for Battery Domestic Violence, he was previously deported to Guatemala on three separate occasions – October 6, 2017, November 2, 2017, and February 4, 2021. Disturbingly, he was convicted of the same offense – Battery Domestic Violence – on January 19, 2021, in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. He was remanded to ICE custody July 3, 2025, from the Clark County Detention Center. Both Valencia-Rodriguez and Hidalgo-Gomez face a maximum of 10 years in prison if convicted.
United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Jason Knight announced the charges. The investigation was led by ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, with prosecution handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada. It is crucial to remember that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
