ALBUQUERQUE – Quentin Veneno, Jr., a 35-year-old man from Dulce, New Mexico, and an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation, has been sentenced to nine years and seven months in prison for his role in a pair of brutal domestic assaults in Indian Country.
On September 22, 2020, a federal jury found Veneno guilty on two counts of domestic assault by a habitual offender and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury following a two-day trial.
According to court records, Veneno physically abused Jane Doe, whom he was dating at the time, on two separate occasions in 2018. The first assault occurred on August 22, 2018, and the second on November 2, 2018, both at her residence in Dulce on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation.
The attacks left Jane Doe with severe injuries, including nine broken ribs and a collapsed lung, as well as extreme pain and bruising over her entire body. This is not the first time Veneno has committed such a heinous crime, as he had previously been convicted of domestic violence in 2009 and 2013.
Upon his release from prison, Veneno will be subject to three years of supervised release. The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office and the Jicarilla Apache Police Department investigated this case, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys David Cowen and Kyle T. Nayback prosecuted the case.
As we delve into the depths of this violent crime, it becomes clear that Veneno’s actions were not only a breach of trust but also a blatant disregard for human life. His sentencing serves as a stark reminder that domestic violence will not be tolerated in our society.
The fight against domestic violence is an ongoing battle, and it’s essential that we continue to raise awareness about the devastating effects it has on victims and their families. The people of New Mexico deserve to live in a community where they feel safe and protected, and it’s our responsibility as a society to ensure that this is the case.
