A Laveen man has been sentenced to 65 months in federal prison for his role in a brutal aggravated assault.
On December 15, 2016, Verland Anthony Sabori, 35, shot a victim in the back, causing life-threatening bodily injury within the boundaries of the Gila River Indian Community.
The victim, also a tribal member, was left with life-threatening bodily injury after the shooting.
Sabori, an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department.
The prosecution was handled by Christina Covault, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
Sabori was sentenced by Judge Douglas L. Rayes to 65 months in federal prison, followed by a term of three years of supervised release.
The case number is CR-16-269-DLR and the release number is 2016-095_Sabori.
