Victim of Hotel Fire Identified, Trenton NJ, 1910

On a fateful Saturday night, a devastating hotel fire ravaged the Passaic Hotel, 1 and 3 Railroad Place, leaving a trail of destruction and tragedy in its wake. The victim, a 30-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey, was found unconscious under a bed by Fireman Engler of No. 5 engine. The man, later identified as V. Higgins, a former employee of the Ajax Oriel Rubber Company in Trenton, had checked into the hotel on Saturday, after reportedly beating his way to Newark by freights. Despite being pulled from the inferno, Higgins succumbed to his injuries just a few minutes later at St. James Hospital.
